First Friday, Lancaster’s monthly mini-festival of the arts, returns next Friday with a full day of music, visual arts, dance, literature and spoken word in venues across the city – and most of them are free.
Lancaster Jazz Festival will launch its festival programme with live music at the Hall Cafe on China Street.
There will be live jazz in Sun Square from 6pm featuring LJF Artist in Residence Seth Bennett.
You can also travel over to Morecambe to watch young musicians perform at More Music’s Hothouse venue for Stages Live, drawing on the talent that attend the weekly youth music sessions.
There’s also a strong visual arts theme with Drawing from the Land at Lancaster City Museum from 2pm-4.30pm.
Artist Jenny McCabe will also exhibit Flocking at St Nic’s Arcade from noon, a display of art banners inspired by local birds and accompanied by a soundscape of birdsong.
Dance theatre company La Petite Mort will perform at the Storey. Cabinet of Curiosities is a playful journey, exploring a world of chance encounters, curiosities and mythical creatures.
