Free Preston event could see you making cash from your music

Leading music organisations PRS for Music and the Musicians’ Union have partnered for a special free event in the city.

It takes place on Tuesday at The Continental in Preston and offers local music creators in Preston the chance to learn more about the music industry and how to take the next step in their careers.

The Continental is a popular music venue and always champions fledgling bands.

A spokesman said: “This looks to be a great event that I’d urge any local unsigned musicians to attend.

“We provide many of opportunities for up-and-coming local bands, both here and at the Ferret, so we’re delighted to be hosting it here.”

Now more than ever before, musicians and artists are taking a DIY approach to creating, releasing and exploiting their music.

Over the course of the evening PRS for Music’s Education and Outreach team and the Musicians’ Union will offer a joint workshop at The Continental, covering everything attendees should know about copyright, how record labels and music publishers work, and how they can make money from their music.

Barry Dallman, North of England Regional Officer, Musicians’ Union, said: “With so many music creators choosing a DIY route to making a career in music, it’s important that they know organisations like the Musicians’ Union and PRS for Music are here to support them.”

He added: “I am pleased to be collaborating with PRS for Music on these workshops.”
