Former UCLan student, film director Mark Gill narrowly missed out on an Oscar.

His first film The Voorman Problem, which he directed, was one of 120 films that originally qualified for the award in the live-action short films category before reaching the final 10 on the shortlist .

The film, starring Martin Freeman and Tom Hollander, was pipped by Heliu

Mark runs his own production company in Manchester.
