The Preston City Cultural Mela transformed the city’s Flag Market with a cross cultural mix of entertainment, craft workshops and information stands as people gathered to watch at the weekend.

The event’s production manager Gulab Singh was delighted with the success of the five hour event on Saturday which drew inspiration from the Commonwealth 2018 celebrations across the UK.

The aim was to promote multicultural arts drawn from the Commonwealth’s heritage.

A cross-continental range of music and dance not only entertained the crowds, but had them joining in with all of it too.

Mr Singh said: “We had the mayor of Preston, the Chief Constable, the Lord Lieutenant and the vice-chairman of Lancashire County Council all dancing to the Bhangra music alongside the public.”

He said that thanks were due to all the organisations who attended the event and made it a success, including police cadets and funders.
