Broadcasting legend Sir Michael Parkinson to visit Preston

The broadcaster Sir Michael Parkinson, chat show host, jazz enthusiast and all-round national treasure,  is to visit the city to share stories of his life and career.

A spokesman for the event said: “An Evening with Sir Michael Parkinson is a unique opportunity to get an intimate, entertaining and informative look at his remarkable journey from a pit village in Yorkshire to the top of those famous stairs while reliving the best moments from a show that for many, defined their Saturday night.”

Billed as “a unique opportunity to get an intimate look at his remarkable journey”, Sir Michael will be spending an evening at Preston Guild Hall’s Charter Theatre on Tuesday, September 25.

Audience members will be able to listen to an account of the life and career of a man who has interviewed over 2,000 of the most important cultural figures of the 20th and 21st centuries.

He will be in conversation with his son Mike and showing highlights from the Parkinson archive.

Sir Michael presented his television talk show, Parkinson, from 1971 to 1982 and from 1998 to 2007. He interviewed the likes of Marlon Brando, Fred Astaire, Sir Alec Guinness, Sir Paul McCartney, Muhammad Ali, George Michael, Madonna and John Cleese.

Ticket prices start at £27.50 and the event starts at 7.30pm.
