IN PICTURES: Ribchester Field Day celebrates its 58th birthday

Although rain stopped play temporarily, when a downpour arrived just as the village’s morris team was about to dance in the main arena, the rest of the celebrations went ahead almost as planned.

From cabaret and comedy on Friday night with RATS (Ribchester Amateur Theatrical Society), to an entry filled parade, complete with three marching bands and a marquee bursting with entries, there was much to enjoy.

Topical entries in the parade ranged from "Save Our Seas" highlighting plastic pollution to "Lest We Forget", marking the centenary of the end of World War I. Meanwhile although the rain meant students from the Ella Shaw Academy of Arts could not perform in the arena they serenaded the crowd with an impromptu song or two in the marquee.

New Field Day Queen Jessica Swan welcomed visitors to the village recreation ground, where apart from sidestalls and mini fairground attractions there was a Lancashire Hawks and Owls stand and piglet racing. Notable too was the marquee display by RAGS (Ribchester Allotment and Garden Society) which created a pop-up bee friendly garden.

A death by chocolate class in the marquee contest made reference to Ribchester's Roman past with a chocolate colosseum.

Local “Britain’s Got Talent” star Ella Shaw entertained with a Saturday night concert and on Sunday festivitites continued with a village tea party with music by ‘Quay Change’ and a magic show by Mr Jolly.
