‘Stream to the Street’ is a concert streamed live from the Harris museum which will showcase popular bands from Preston and the surrounding area from 6 to 9.45pm on October 16 and 17.

The event will be raising money for local music and mental health charity We Are Hummingbird and will be broadcast to popular streaming service Youtube.

Although the event is free, people are encouraged to book a ticket online and spare a few pounds in donation to the local charity.

Councillor Peter Kelly, Cabinet member for culture and leisure said: “This is a great opportunity to support local bands at a time when it is difficult to host live events and performances.

“We are grateful to UK Media and Events for delivering the live streams and hope everyone can enjoy the performances from the safety of their own homes.”

Peter said that the finishing time of 9.45pm was to line up with the imposed pub and bar curfew of 10pm in the city, meaning local music venues and hospitality businesses can stream the concert to their TVs.

He added: “There are eight bands performing over the two nights which all have a good local following behind them.

“I wanted it to be an eclectic mix over the two nights and wanted to get those with a strong local fan base involved.

“We wanted to help a local charity that supports people with their mental health struggles because it is so important at the moment. We want to engage people and music can really help to do that and bring people together.

"Culturarly we have to reach out to people in Preston differently and this is a completely new way to do it. It is much better and more creative than someone being sat singing behind a laptop but, it has been a challenging organising the event under the lockdown restrictions. I am very excited about it."
