“I’m so excited - I feel so blessed,” she said before the two-day Miss England finals began yesterday.

“I can’t believe what’s happened to me in just a few short weeks.”

Tonight will be the culmination of a hectic three months for Elizabeth, from Ribbleton, who only won the Miss Preston title in April after being talent-spotted in the street while out shopping.

She qualified for the semi-finals of the Miss England contest in Notttinghamshire in June. And yesterday she made the top 10 of the model round of the competition which ends with the crowning of Miss England tonight.

Just reaching the final has been an achievement for Elizabeth who had to juggle important exams at Liverpool University with her beauty queen duties.

As Miss Preston she has dedicated her year to raising money for Derian Children’s Hospice in Chorley where he sister Melanie - a former Little Miss Lancashire Evening Post - was cared for after being diagnosed with a brain tumour.

Melanie died in 2001 aged just 12. But an Evening Post appeal called “Melanie’s Magic Wand” raised £463,000 for specialist equipment at the Royal Preston Hospital.
