Kite festival returns to Morecambe

Catch the Wind, More Music's annual kite festival, returns to Morecambe over Saturday July 16 and Sunday July 17.

Kites of all shapes and sizes will be flown by professional kite flyers on the beach.On the Promenade and outside The Platform, there will be live music, street entertainment and children’s workshops.In front of The Platform, there will be free live music all weekend on an open air stage.Acts include Haiku Salut who return to Morecambe after playing an impressive gig at The Hothouse earlier this month. They are an instrumental dream-pop/folk-pop band who mix acoustic instruments with electronic elements.While ICHI , from Japan, and combines his own handmade instrument inventions with steel-drum, ping-pong balls and tape-loops as the ultimtae one man band.Artist Dan Fox brings Howling Wire, a large music installations that create musical sounds as the wind blows through them while Astral Circus will perform circus tricks and workshops throughout the weekend. More Music’s Baybeat Streetband will bring the sounds of samba to Morecambe Promand the Cumbria Gaita Band play traditional Galician bagpipes, accompanied by Galician-style percussion. A traditional Javanese Gamelan will be open to the public to try out as well as a second gamelan to play, which is made from scrap.The festivale takes place between 12pm until 5pm on Saturday July 16 and Sunday July 17.
