Gala day for Penwortham

And this year, the event offers everything from a traditional carnival parade to a fantastic fun fair to an evening of musical entertainment – and a fun Teddy Bears’ picnic.

On Saturday and Sunday, starting at 12.30pm, the colourful gala procession, lead by the Manchester Fire and Rescue Pipe Band, will weave its way from 
the starting point at Hill Road South to Hurst Grange Park where an afternoon of
fun will already be well underway.

Fun fair rides, stalls and entertainments kick off at the park at noon, and crowds can also enjoy performances on the main stage from local folkers Trouble at t’ Mill, from the Sarah Swirls Belly Dancers and from the Mary Whelan Irish Dancers.

In the evening, the park is the setting for a concert with local band Deadwood Dog, who are soon to support former star of The Jam, Bruce Foxton, at 53 Degrees.

Also on the bill is Ronan Keating tribute act Paul Sutton who triumped on Stars in Their Eyes as his idol.

Sunday begins with a colourful open air church service, conducted by Penwortham Churches Together, with singing, dancing and lots of great performances, starting at 11am. And the gala ends with a treat for the littlest children with a great Teddy Bears’ picnic event on the park, to which they can all bring along their favourite soft toy.

At the picnic, they can enjoy a wonderful afternoon of children’s entertainment organised by local firm, iEvents, until 4pm.

The gala is the highlight of Penwortham’s year, and attracts up to 10,000 visitors a day.
