Eighteen-year-old Callum Bennett and dad Matthew, who was diagnosed with Aspergers Syndrome in 2015, will perform under their stage name ‘FMA + 12 Gage’ at London venue The Mermaid Theatre.

And former script and film writer Matthew says it was a relief when he was diagnosed with the form of autism and jumped at the chance to perform in the show.

The 38-year-old said: “Being diagnosed made a lot of things make sense. I’ve always been quite creative and so when my son wanted to get into music I joined in because I thought it was a good way of boosting his confidence.

“Then it snowballed from there. Performing allows me to get out some of the frustrations of not being able to fit in as I’d like to.”

The pair from Broadgate, Preston, will perform a rap Matthew wrote for his son’s 18th birthday as well as a self-written song ‘My dad’s a better rapper than you’ in aid of Anna Kennedy Online.

Callum said: “Like my dad I probably have autism but I haven’t chosen to get diagnosed. Since me and my dad started rapping together I have found that it has given me an outlet.

“Autism’s Got Talent is a huge opportunity and I’m incredibly grateful.”
