The nature reserve, off junction 31 of the M6 at Salmesbury, is holding an event entitled Autumn Edible Hedgerow in its Activity Room from 1.30pm to 3.30pm on Sunday.

Staff will help visitors to identify key species of plants and fungi with culinary and medicinal uses – including which are inedible.

During the walk they will explain how to forage in a sustainable way, only taking what you need and leaving the rest to nature and for others.

On Sunday, the Activity Room also hosts a Fungi Foray from 10am to noon.

The workshops will help you to identify fungi, understand the families of fungi, and how to tell them apart from the edible Cep to the deadly Deathcap.

Both the Autumn Edible Hedgerow and Fungi Foray are limited to 20 people, so it is easier to talk about the species and answer questions.

Tickets for both cost £6 and booking is essential.

The reserve also hosts two walks over the next week – a guided two-and-a-half hour tour of the reserve at 1.30pm on Sunday, and a one-and-a-half hour midweek meander at 1.30pm on Wednesday, September 11.

A £1 donation is suggested.

The next children’s Nature Tots session runs from 9.30am to 10.45am on Friday, September 13.

Aimed at children aged 15 months to three, this gives them the chance to explore the outdoors and take part in nature themed activities. Parents and guardians must accompany children.

Another session runs from 11am to 12.15pm for three to five-year-olds.

The sessions cost £4 and booking is advised.
