Shoppers have been thanked for their loyal custom by staff working at the Arcadia brand, who found out they were losing their jobs just two hours after Asos announced their new takeover.

The news comes after online retailer Asos confirmed their £265 million deal to take over high street brands Topshop, Topman, Miss Selfridge and HIIT.

But the staff were able to still thank Preston 'loyal customers' for their support with a heartfelt poster outside the store, on Preston's Fishergate.

The message read: "Our store is now closed. Thank you for your support and loyal custom over the years.

"We will miss all our lovely loyal customers.

"Continue to support your local high street but please stay safe."

Just yesterday, fashion giant Asos confirmed it would be taking over Topshop and three other brands for £265 million after Arcadia collapsed into insolvency at the start of December.

And Asos told investors yesterday morning, February 1, that it will take on just 300 employees as part of the new deal.

Asos chief executive Nick Beighton said: “We are extremely proud to be the new owners of the Topshop, Topman, Miss Selfridge and HIIT brands.

“The acquisition of these iconic British brands is a hugely exciting moment for Asos and our customers and will help accelerate our multi-brand platform strategy."
