Leyland Warriors Under-10s thrashed New Spring Lions 60-32.
Warriors began well, with a try from the start as Jack Tootell found space and scored in the corner, with Zak Bentham scoring the conversion.
This was followed by a powerful drive by Bentham who brushed off several tackles to score his first for the season which was converted by Matthew Schmid.
The Lions responded with a couple of tries of their own before Schmid used his pace from dummy-half to surge through the Lions defence to score a third Leyland try which was converted by Will Down.
Leyland kept pushing with some excellent drives from Leon Whatton, Nathan Roberts and Tom Down resulting in a great try from Luke Weston, converted by Tootell.
The half-time team talk seemed to inspire Leyland with another top try, as Schmid spotted a gap in the corner and kicked the ball high over the defence for Tootell to use his pace to pounce on to the ball.
This seemed to reinvigorate Warriors, with the excellent Jake Cooper scoring a powerful try as he used all his strength to edge over the try line with three defenders pulling him back.
As the Lions responded with a try of their own, Leyland scored further four-pointers from Tootell and Schmid to put the game beyond doubt.
The try of the game came right at the end as two excellent drives from the powerful Charlie Hicks and Will Down took the ball just 10 metres from the Lions’ try line and an excellent pass from dummy-half by Schmid found Weston, who beat several defenders for a great try on the inside to make it 60-32 to Leyland.
