Leyland returned to the top of the Northern Premier Cricket League Division One table after a fine seven wicket win over Darwen yesterday and third-placed Chorley are also in the hunt for the title.

And Makinson is keen to have the local bragging rights by leaving Windsor Park victorious next week.

He said: “It is always nice to play Chorley.

“It is a local derby and
we want to have the local bragging rights.

“They are doing quite well this season

“But so are we and there is no reason now why we can’t push on and challenge for
 the title.”

Leyland beat Morecambe by 43 runs on Saturday and Makinson, who missed the game due to an ongoing back problem, said it was a good performance.

He said: “They played
very well.

“One-hundred-and-sixty was a pretty good score on that pitch.

“As soon as we got past 130 I knew we were in with a chance.

“Our bowling was good.”

Leyland knocked Garstang out of the ECB National Knock Out on Sunday.

And Makinson was pleased they got through to the next round.

He said: “It was a really good performance against Garstang. We had four players from the second team and one form the third team.

“And all 11 players contributed to the victory.

“It was a good win because they are a good Palace Shield team and it is good to get through to the next round.

“It was a really good team performance and we now face Longridge in the next round.”
