It was a case of doubles all round at Preston Table Tennis League’s divisional cup final night.
The league champions in all three divisions went on to complete doubles by beating the respective runners-up in each division.
However, each match was closely fought and provided great entertainment for the decent-sized audience at the St Augustine’s Centre in Avenham.
In the Premier Division event, Ashton Meths A beat Astra A 5-2.
For Ashton, Majid Tubasum won his three games and Charles Musa won twice.
But their No.1 Khamal Hussain suffered defeat in both his games to Dean Walmsley and Paul Robinson, with the former in particular in fine form.
In the Division One final, the experienced Tony Rigby and his teenage team-mates Nathan Nickeas and Josh Lumb took Astra C to a 5-3 success over Riverside A.
Sixteen-year-old Nickeas was the real star of the show, winning all three of his games.
For Riverside, Martin Shaw won twice, including a 11-5 8-11 11-13 11-7 11-9 victory over Rigby, who had gone through the whole league season unbeaten, while Chris Spedding also had one win.
In the Division Two final, Ashton Meths C overcame a dogged Astra E 5-3.
Defensive kingpin Bob Eden ground out three victories, with Jeff Barnes and Sam Bernstein posting one win each.
For Astra, Ray Hallett, Paul Lunan and Peter Lucas all had one victory.
