Preston’s Stephanie Slater won two gold medals and set a new world record at the IPC Swimming European Championships in Eindhoven.

Slater, who suffered nerve damage in 2011 and swims with one arm, claimed gold in the women’s S8 100m butterfly before repeating the feat in the SM8 200m individual medley.

In the butterfly, the 23-year-old touched the wall in a world-record time of one minute 8.20 seconds, beating Jessica Long’s previous best of 1:09.60.

Slater said: “I am totally amazed by how well I’ve done so far this week but I knew my training had been going really well so I knew I had good performances in me coming into this.”
