In the Preston and District Veterans’ Snooker League the new Division One champions, Elite Snooker completed the double with a convincing win in the final of the Richard Smith Knockout Cup.
The victory brought down the curtain on Elite’s most successful season for more than a decade.
Their Second Division opponents Hoole Village Hall never really came up for the challenge after Elite’s two opening players, Nigel Holmes (108-22) – later to collect the highest break of the season (61) – and Peter Brown (76-40) wiped off their handicap advantage with added interest.
The remaining four frames all went the same way, making it a clean sweep for the Snooker Club by 424-262.
In the presentation that followed it was also double honours for St Anthony’s, who took both the Second Division title and the Divisional Handicap Cup, winning automatic promotion to Division One next season.
The Preston and District Veterans’ Snooker League AGM will be held at New Longton Bowling Club on Friday, April 11, at 2pm.
