Sam achieves season's best at Euros

Pentathlon GB's Samantha Murray produced her best result of the season as she finished 14th in the Women's Senior European Championships final in Minsk on Saturday.

And, alongside Kate French (7th) and Jo Muir (17th), she helped the team finish fourth overall, narrowly missing out on a medal by just nine points.

The day began in the pool with the 200m swim, where Clitheroe’s Murray led the British challenge, her time of 2:13.60 placing her sixth in the discipline standings.

The fencing hall proved to be a decisive location as 27-year-old Murray picked up 17 victories and 18 defeats.

In the bonus round, Murray picked up two extra points to leave her 15th.

In the riding standings, the high British standard was maintained, as Murray picked up 288 points to move up to 13th place ahead of the concluding laser run.

A fascinating combined run-shoot developed with the positions in the top 20 changing throughout the 3,200m course, as Murray finished in 14th. Murray qualified for the final last Thursday, the British champion finishing 10th in Group A.
