Shrimps need to move on quickly
Morecambe host basement boys Chesterfield tonight hoping to bounce back and take a big step towards League Two survival.
The Shrimps’ 3-0 defeat at Cheltenham on Saturday means they are 20th and six points clear of Barnet and the relegation places with two games in hand on the Bees.
The Spireites are two further back at the foot of the table ahead of the meeting at the Globe Arena on Tuesday night, one which is likely to have a big say in the standings come the end of the season.
Boss Jim Bentley will be looking for his side to recapture their recent good form having slipped to just a second defeat in 10 games at Whaddon Road.
“It’s hard to be critical of the lads,” he said. “We have been on a good run and we have been hard to beat but we have to take the defeat on the chin and make sure we move on.
“It was never a 3-0 defeat on Saturday but sometimes you have to hold your hands up and say the opposition had a physical advantage and used it well.
“They are the biggest side I have seen for some time and they have a game plan and they did it very well.
“We started brilliantly though and could have scored two in the opening 10 minutes.
“We hit the bar and their keeper pulled off an unbelievable save and if one of those had gone in it could have been a different story.
“Goals change games though and to be fair to them they built on the good luck they had.”
