With Paul Gallagher suspended and Sean Maguire and Billy Bodin both out in the longer term the duo being unavailable further hampered the Lilywhites as they went down 2-0 at Pride Park.

But Neil hopes to have captain Clarke and last year’s player of the season Browne back sooner rather than later with Leeds next up in the League Cup on Tuesday night.

“Alan has just strained his hamstring a little and Tom has just got a tendon problem in his groin but nothing too serious at all,” said Neil.

“I’m hopeful that they are going to be recovered really quickly.

“Tom will probably be back quicker than Alan.”
