Match-winner Callum Robinson believes Bristol City win was another big step in right direction for Preston North End

The forward’s ninth of the season 10 minutes before half-time was enough to seal at 1-0 win for Alex Neil’s side on Saturday.

A first away win in the Championship this season extended the Lilywhites’ unbeaten run to seven games and moved them up to 18th in the table.

It also means PNE have now won on their last five visits to Ashton Gate and are unbeaten in the last 11 meetings between the sides.

“This was what we’re about,” said Robinson.

“It was a good team performance and was more like the us of last year.

“We’d stay solid and then catch teams on the break and come away with 1-0 wins.

“That’s what we need to get back to doing and we’re seven unbeaten and we’re slowly getting some rhythm.

“It was a big game for us, we needed to get three points.

“We’ve picked up a few points over the last few games and this victory makes those draws good draws.

“Getting that first away win before the international break gives us a real chance to kick on.”

The goal came from a fine team breakaway

Sean Maguire did the initial work to set up Tom Barkhuizen down the right with the winger’s cross finding Daniel Johnson who showed good poise and awareness to square for Robinson to score from close range.

“We’d done it a few times throughout the game, got in positions like that, but nothing had come of it,” said the match-winner.

“For the goal though Barks broke down the side, DJ did really well and got it across and it was a tap in but I’ll certainly take it.

“It’s been a good season personally and now the team’s doing well with it, that’s the main thing.

“They’re creating chances for me and I’m putting them away.”

The 23-year-old is no stranger to his good friend Johnson laying on a golden chance for him and hailed the Jamaican’s influence at Ashton Gate.

“DJ’s got a lot of quality and all the boys and people around the Championship know that,” Robinson said.

“Today he had the licence get in positions a bit higher up the pitch and show his quality which is exactly what he did.

“He’s a really good player and he’s set me up a few times now so has been a good friend to me!”
