Louis Moult insists Preston North End will keep on fighting after Reading defeat

With a trip to leaders Leeds next up on Tuesday, picking up a first victory since the opening day will be easier said than done but Moult says everyone at Deepdale needs to remain positive.

“We need to keep believing and keep working hard,” said the front man.

“We need to make sure heads don’t drop and that we are there for each other.

“Everyone around the club needs to back us.

“We’ve got another game on Tuesday which is really important.”

Moult was one of five changes Alex Neil made for the first game after the international break with PNE lining up in a 3-4-3 system.

In a familiar tale, the hosts created plenty of chances but fell behind twice, Daniel Johnson and Callum Robinson equalising before Leandro Bacuna’s winner nine minutes from time.

“Going forward I thought we looked bright, especially in the first half,” said Moult.

“We created a number of chances and it just wouldn’t sit for us.

“Then in the second half we dominated most of the ball but we conceded from a set piece which isn’t great and then got broken on for the third.

“Overall I thought the performance was good.

“It’s just cutting out those errors and silly mistakes. You shouldn’t be conceding three goals at home.

“That’s the be all and end all.”

Moult was supported by Robinson and Tom Barkhuizen in attack and felt the set up worked well while acknowledging that there is still plenty of room for improvement in the final third.

“It worked going forward,” said the No.9.

“We worked on it during the week, players being in and around me so I could link the play.

“We created a couple of chances off it.

“There was one for Callum Robinson especially and on another day that might go in.

“It worked to a certain degree but we need to put the ball in the back of the net more often.”
