Head coach Michael Lough believes Preston Grasshoppers can take full advantage of a confidence boost when they travel to Otley tomorrow.

Hoppers will be looking to halt a slide down the SSE National League Two South table, which has seen them embark on a seven-game losing streak.

Yet Lough’s troops proved they could mix it with the best in defeat to third-placed Stourbridge last weekend, finding themselves just four points behind heading into the last 10 minutes before running out of steam.

A win against Otley could be crucial at the business end of the season as both sides look to pull further away from the relegation zone, and Lough insists his side head into the fixture on a high.

“Otley’s going to be a tough match, they are a good side and their position in the table does not justify how good they are,” he said.

“We definitely need to
give them the necessary respect.

“It’s always hard to play them away, they have a unique ground, so we’ll have to be on our guard.

“But there’s no reason why we can’t keep the confidence going and register a good result..

“What we did after Stourbridge was put the result into perspective.

“As a team we have suffered a tough run but there was a lot of positive feeling after the game and we are definitely going in the right direction.”

And not only is confidence flowing again at Hoppers,
but Lough believes there is notable improvement on the pitch.

“We all thought the score didn’t quite reflect the scoreline, including Stourbridge, as they ran away with it in the last five or so minutes,” said Lough.

“But I think we turned the corner in terms of our performance, it was very encouraging. I think how we executed our game-plan and our positional play was excellent, we didn’t get carried away with elements we couldn’t control.

“We managed our own defence and made the
tackles we needed to, playing in the right areas and
keeping the ball well under pressure.”
