Horgan arrived in England alongside team-mate Andy Boyle in January 2017 on the back of a League of Ireland title win and impressive displays in the Europa League.

Twenty appearances followed before the end of that season but since Neil replaced Simon Grayson he has fallen down the pecking order.

Horgan made only five starts for Preston in the 2017-18 season with just two of those coming in the Championship, against Barnsley and Cardiff over Christmas.

He made a further 18 appearances as a substitute with his solitary league goal coming in the win at Burton Albion in December.

Further competition has arrived this summer in the form of another Republic of Ireland international, Shamrock Rovers’ versatile forward Graham Burke.

But North End would like Horgan to stay and fight for his place.
