The 19-year-old Hameed will think he should also be coming out to bat after lunch following two sessions of almost flawless defence saw him reach his third first class half-century off 183 balls.

But in the last over before lunch his fellow teenager Mason Crane got one to spin from outside the leg stump and feather Hameed’s edge, James Vince snaffling the catch at slip as Hameed departed for 62 and leave Lancashire 226-2 at the interval.
