They had to mount a second-half comeback to take the three points on the Fylde coast, North End scoring three times in 22 minutes.

Blackpool - managed by Simon Grayson at the time - had taken an early lead in the Sunday lunchtime clash through Adam Hamill.

The Lilywhites got themselves going after the interval, Brown equalising in the 55th minute with a header at the near post from Ross Wallace's cross.

Mellor then headed home Callum Davidson's cross to put North End in front, the striker racing across to the travelling PNE fans in the open stand down the side of the pitch to celebrate.

Victory was wrapped-up in the 77th minute as Brown collected Wallace's low ball in front of goal, calmly controlled and then swept a shot into the net.

The win was just North End's third in 11 league games, Alan Irvine's men having hit a sticky patch of form that autumn.

That season they made the play-offs after a clinching a sixth-place finish in dramatic style. But they lost to Sheffield United in the semi-finals.
