No Commonwealth Games glory for Preston cyclist Ian Bibby

Preston cyclist Ian Bibby missed out on a Commonwealth Games medal in the men's individual time trial.

The 31-year-old Team England rider clocked a time of 50 minutes and 43 seconds to finish in ninth spot overall on the Gold Coast, in Australia.

The competition was won by Australia's Cameron Meyer, whose time of 48:13 seconds was 30 seconds better than England's Harry Tanner, who won the silver medal.

The bronze medal was claimed by New Zealand's Hamish Bond, who finished two seconds further back.

Bibby has another opportunity to win a medal on Saturday when he goes in the men's road race.

Meanwhile, Preston badminton ace Chloe Birch moved through to the last 32 of the singles competition when she defeated South Africa's Johanita Scholtz.

The 22-year-old defeated her opponent 21-5, 21-8.

She is next in action on Wednesday against Jersey's Elise Dixon.
