Laura blows away rival in Windy City

Chorley's world No.1 Laura Massaro sent out a signal of intent to her rivals at the 2016 Windy City Open, PSA World Series tournament, as she ruthlessly dismissed world No.6 Omneya Abdel Kawy of Egypt in just 29 minutes to reach the semi-finals.

Massaro has been the player to beat on tour this season. But after a poor showing at the Tournament of Champions in January, when she lost out in the last eight, she looked to be back to the form that took her to glory at the US Open and Qatar Classic.

She completely dominated from start to finish to underline her credentials as the tournament favourite and top seed.

Massaro will now face world No.4 Nour El Sherbini in the last four, after the 20-year-old Egyptian defeated former world No.1 Nicol David 3-0.

“You can never let your guard down at all in any match and I think in that third game I maybe switched off and was already warming down,” said Massaro.

“As a result she got back into and it was edgy. I’m angry at myself for that.

“I did the same thing in the last round so I’m really happy to get off winning 3-0 against a very dangerous opponent and I’m really excited to be in the semi-finals.”
