The 27-year-old fast bowler has played in 56 one-day internationals since his debut against the West Indies in April 2011 taking 83 wickets at an average of 28.77 and an economy rate of just over five.

Meanwhile, in domestic T20 cricket, he has taken 115 wickets in 95 matches at an average of just over 20 with best figures of four for 12 for Lancashire Lightning against Birmingham Bears at Emirates Old Trafford in 2014.

The Pakistan fast bowler has already had two successful spells with Lancashire back in 2011 and 2014.

Khan took 12 wickets in 2011 as Lancashire won seven of the eight T20 matches in which he played in, and he famously defended seven off the last over to help secure victory over Northamptonshire Steelbacks at Wantage Road.

His spell in 2014 was even more successful as he took 19 wickets in ten games at an average of 14 and an economy rate of less than seven as Lancashire Lightning again reached finals day at Edgbaston.

Khan, who also played one Championship match in the 2011 title-winning season, commented, “I thoroughly enjoyed both my spells a Old Trafford and I’m looking forward to linking up with the squad later this summer.

“The whole club made me feel incredibly welcome when I played for Lancashire in 2011 and 2014. The experiences I gained in those years has enhanced my performance in my ability to swing and seam when bowling. The different climate conditions has also strengthened me as player and hopefully this year I can give something back, both on the field and off the field.”

Khan added, “In both 2011 and 2014 the team reached finals day so it would great to get back there again this year and win some more silverware for this great club.”

The left-arm bowler will be available for all of Lancashire Lightning’s group stage matches and will also be available for the knock-out stages of the competition.

Head coach Glen Chapple said, “We’re delighted to bring Junaid back to Emirates Old Trafford following two very successful spells with the Club.

“He was a very popular member of the squad and is now an experienced Pakistan international, particularly in white ball cricket. He certainly adds experience to our bowling attack and hopefully he’ll make a valuable contribution throughout the competition.

“He should be able to settle in really quickly as he already knows a lot of the squad and his death bowling will be a huge asset for us.

“We have been in contact with him on and off since he left in 2014, so it will be really good to have him back in the changing room."
