Rebecca Worthington scored all the goals as Garstang Ladies Hockey Club 1sts beat Ulverston 4-0 at home.

The Reds started well but time and again, Ulverston thwarted Garstang’s attacks with fouls outside the D and were able to regroup for the free hits.

Garstang started to play quality, passing hockey and wave after wave of attacks were halted at the last minute by a determined Ulverston defence.

Just as the Garstang players were wondering what they had to do to score, Worthington netted on the break.

With seconds to go in the first half, Fran Summers made a good break in to the D and teed up Worthington, who made no mistake to make it 2-0 .

In the second half, Garstang started well and kept the ball in the Ulverston half.

However, on 12 minutes, a quick break by Ulverston prompted a classic diving block by Sarah-Jane Skelton just as the Ulverston forwards were ready to pounce.

Five minutes later, Worthington beat the keeper after a great break and completed her hat-trick.

Despite dominating the rest of the half, Garstang had to wait until two minutes from time before Worthington slammed home from a narrow angle.

This weekend, Garstang face Pendle.

Elsewhere, Garstang ladies 2nds beat Lancaster 3rds 2-1 at home.

The Reds lost the toss but immediately took control of the game.

The defence – consisting of Grace Webster, Jemma Hampson, Ellie Moss and Holly Wilson – were pushing up the pitch keeping the ball in Lancaster’s half.

Olivia Mason had a number of shots on the goal after great crossing of the ball from Wendy Howarth and Holly Hunter.

Steph Roe also came close with the keeper deflecting the ball away.

Garstang played with confidence, passing the ball around with ease. The first goal came from Roe who picked up Hunter’s rebound to make it 1-0.

Just before half-time, Lancaster gained two short corners but Garstang keeper Zoe Mathers was on form and made some great saves.

Garstang upped the pressure in the second half as player-of-the-match Webster put a great ball through to Becky Duckworth, which resulted in another shot on goal.

And after dominating play Lauren Smith finally made the possession pay by making it 2-0.

Lancaster fought back and managed to put a ball through to make score 2-1 but Garstang secured victory.
