League leaders Leyland and Chorley ladies 1sts beat Lancaster 2nds 3-0 at home to keep their place at the top of the Lancashire Central Women’s Hockey League Premier Division table.

L&C started brightly and some quick, strong passes created the first goal of the game, as Sarah Winstanley’s straight strike hit the back of the net just one minute in.

The hosts doubled their lead less than two minutes later as Nicola Wallbank found Raelene Strickland in space, and she teed up Louise Hutchinson to fire home with an inch-perfect pass.

Winstanley nearly made it three from a penalty corner, but her powerful strike was blocked by a foot, which went unseen by the officials.

A Lancaster counter-attack was thwarted by Eluned Smith, who spotted Hutchinson open on the right.

She passed the ball for Hutchinson to take it up the wing, and it was smashed across perfectly to Wallbank, who was waiting on the penalty spot to net the third goal.

Elswhere, L&C ladies’ 2nds are also in top spot in the Lancashire Central Women’s Hockey League Division Three table after running riot against Southport Ladies 2nds, winning 16-0.

Southport were second in the table and unbeaten before the clash.

But player-of-the-match
and five-goal hero Michelle Alty was behind an emphatic victory.

Penny Robb teed Alty up to score her first and she bagged her second soon after.

Alison Rigby made it three and then turned provider as she teed-up Robb.

Within minutes, Paula Thornton’s straight strike made it five.

And Alty completed her
hat-trick with a brilliant straight strike.

A short corner was awarded just before half-time and was finished off by Vicky Pilkington.

L&C did not let up in the second half and Pilkington raced up the wing to make it eight.

The Reds won another short corner and Robb drove the ball to Alty and it went in off the post.

Pilkington teed-up Lisa Evans to make it goal number 10. Then Hayley Billington dribbled down the pitch, played in Pilkington to slip the ball to Evans, who struck again.

Evans completed her
hat-trick moments later as she pounced on Billington’s cross and fired home.

Helen Adams made it 13 from a short corner and Billington’s shot rebounded to Alty who bagged her fifth.

Robb increased her tally by converting a penalty flick and Anna Jones completed the rout.

The men’s 1sts lost 3-1 at home to Carlisle men’s 1sts in their North West Hockey League Division Three North clash.

Ex-Leyland stalwart Paul Masterson returned to haunt his old team on Saturday as part of a strong and experienced Preston men’s 5ths side, scoring four goals and claiming two assists as they won 7-1 against L&C men’s 3rds.

L&C struck just before half-time when a short corner strike from Adrian Thornton was deflected over the line by James Lane.
