Garstang Ladies Hockey Club 1sts had a great result, with some flowing team play, consistent passing and determination to win every ball leading to a 5-0 victory against Lancaster University.
Goal number one came from a crash cross from Di Roe, finished off in style with a first-time sweep high into the net from Catherine Godbold.
Following some excellent switching play by the defence, the Reds won a short corner which was deftly landed into the back of the goal by Fran Summers.
The third goal came from a diagonal pass by Summers taking out two defenders, followed by a strike from Godbold ricocheting overkeeper and into the back of the net.
So at half-time Garstang were in the box seat.
It was almost four after some stunning passing play through the midfield from Rebecca Worthington and Summers, ending with an amazing high shot by Di Roe, which was only stopped by a brilliant hand save by the opposition goalie.
The second half saw play move swiftly up the up pitch and saw Worthington one on one with the goalie.
The keeper dived to save the shot but Worthington stayed with it to follow up and the ball was in the back of the net.
It was Worthington’s first goal for Garstang 1sts.
The final goal of the day came from a speedy run around the defenders from Summers with Rachel Roe in the right place at the right time scoring her first goal for the 1sts.
It was a great game all round with some quality passing play, working strongly round the back to switch from right to left.
Determined commitments from everyone ensured Garstang got to the ball first on many occasions, with Josie Rice and Donna Richardson outstanding in their interceptions.
The last five minutes saw the opposition getting close to their D and great dive from Lindsay Thornhill ensured there was no likelihood of Lancaster University getting a last-minute goal.
