After two weeks of ice and snow Garstang Ladies’ 1sts finally managed to get a game on, beating visitors Mossley Hill 2-0 at Preston Sports Arena.

Garstang made a determined start and put early pressure on Mossley Hill’s area and Lyndsey Cookson neatly slotted in with her trademark ‘in off the left post’ after the subsequent penalty corner.

After all the good forward play, Garstang let Mossley Hill back into the game for the last 15 minutes of the first half by carelessly losing possession and not clearing the lines quickly enough.

The visitors created chances of their own with some penalty corner opportunities and a good open-play chance was cleared off the line by Sarah Muir.

Garstang picked up the pace again in the second half and put some good moves together, in particular, captain Lindsay Norton broke through from defence, releasing Fran Summers several times.

Midge Bury also made some good runs and was interlinking well with Summers and Diane Roe.

Garstang’s attacking play finally paid dividends when the ball bounced around Mossley Hill’s ‘D’, eventually falling to Bury on the left, who found room to strike into the corner to make it 2-0.

Meanwhile, Garstang Ladies’ Hockey Club will host their third annual race night on Saturday at the Guild Pub, Fylde Road in Preston to raise funds for the Preston-based club.

They currently have around 30 members and field two competitive teams.

All bets are only a £1, with a total of 10 races taking place. All the action starts at 7.30pm.

The club have opportunities for sponsors and have a number of packages available to suit all budgets. For more information, contact Dave Gee on 07774 792824.
