Springfields Ladies 4ths won the Lancashire Central Hockey Lishman Cup thanks to a 2-1 triumph over Lancaster 4ths.
After going down 1-0 down after only two minutes, the Springfields girls had to battle hard to get the equaliser before half time from Claire Thornhill.
After the break, Springfields came out Thornhill got her second.
Her hat-trick was on with a penalty flick that hit the post, so the score remained at 2-1 with most of the play coming from Springs.
Lancaster went close with their final attack but they were thwarted by a smart save.
Fran Loffler Thompson was green carded for arguing with the umpire. Bernie, her sister, took her off to avoid going down to 10 players.
Meanwhile, Springfields are joining more than 170 clubs across the country in a national ‘Back to Hockey’ campaign.
They are inviting anyone interested in playing to their sessions, which will run weekly from Wednesday, April 23, until Wednesday, May 14 (7pm-8pm) at Broughton Business and Enterprise College.
Back to Hockey sessions are coached sessions for women who may not have played for a long period of time or who are looking to try the sport for the first time.
Springfields’ coached sessions will provide a great opportunity to make new friends and will give a basic introduction to the sport to those who have not played before.
If you would like to take part in Back to Hockey sessions e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org for further details.
