The Reds knew they had to be at the top of their game from the first whistle in order to put Preston under pressure.

They soon began to get the game under control and began dominating possession.

They opened the scoring when a solid strike from the top of the D by Diane Roe was deflected into the net by Rebecca Worthington.

Garstang were looking stronger by the minute and had a number of chances, but were unlucky with some of the decisions made.

Christy Martin (right) then picked up the ball and dribbled down the pitch, getting past a Preston player skilfully, taking it around the keeper and slipping it across to Fran Summers, who knocked it in to the back of the net.

After half- time, Preston came out fighting and the Garstang defence managed to stay strong and keep them
out.

There was some lovely play from Deborah Huyton.

Garstang caught Preston on the counter attack and gained a short corner.

The play was well rehearsed, with Alice Matthews striking the ball at the top of the D and then Worthington getting a reverse-stick shot into the
left-hand corner.

Preston attacked and had two short corners.

One attempt was heading for the top left-hand corner, but was stopped by a spectacular save by Sarah Skelton.

The second attempt found its way into the back of the net after some scrappy play.

Garstang’s Josephine Rice said: “It was a good performance overall, especially from player-of-the-match Christy Martin.

“It was a well deserved three points won.”
