The diminutive right-handed batsman will be back at Fox Lane after a record-breaking debut season in 2015 when he smashed the first team batting record, on his way to notching up 1,190 runs at an average of 79.33.

First team captain David Makinson was very pleased to have Frenz back in his side as Leyland’s allocated overseas player for their 2016 Northern League campaign.

And he is pleased the South African North West provincial side player turned down approaches from other clubs to return to Fox Lane.

He said, “Richardt is very much looking forward to his return and we are delighted that he is coming back.

“It is a big boost for everyone at the club.

“I know that he had some other offers on the table but he values the friendships he made at Leyland and didn’t hesitate in choosing to return here.”

Makinson says 23-year-old Frenz - who has also notched 826 first class runs in 12 matches in 2015 for North West - should be fit in time for the new season in April despite picking up an elbow injury in South Africa.

And the captain backed Frenz to pick up where he left off.

He said: “Richardt performed superbly for us last year.

“So with that experience to fall back on I’m sure he can have another good season.

“At present he is recovering from an elbow injury which has seen him miss a couple of first class matches for the North West provincial side in South Africa.

“But he made his return in a club match at the weekend, so should be fully fit for the start of our season in April.”
