Vardy's party still going on

Vardy had won the spot-kick and, having netted against Germany and Holland in March, showed his finisher’s instinct by blasting an 83rd-minute winner in off the goalkeeper.

A delighted Vardy said: “We started off well in the first half and then Turkey came back into it.

“The second half started a bit similar so we changed formation and managed to get the goal to win it.”

There was little more than 30 seconds on the clock when Kane and Vardy’s partnership clicked into gear.

The Spurs striker picked the ball up in a deep-lying possession and ran powerfully towards goal before slipping the onrushing Vardy in.

The pass was perfectly timed but Vardy could not make a clean connection and Volkan Babacan gathered safely.

If that was a warning sign, Turkey did not heed it because early in the third minute Kane slotted the hosts ahead.

Raheem Sterling played in Dele Alli, pushing high up the field and sorting out his feet quickly to find Kane 12 yards out.

He made no mistake with a low finish in the bottom corner as Turkey’s valid offside appeals fell on deaf ears.

The lead was almost wiped out immediately, Ozan Tufan seeing a goalbound shot bravely blocked by Kyle Walker after the home defence was prised apart on the counter.

Joe Hart, having already saved from Cenk Tosun at the near post, rushed out to meet Volkan Sen in the 13th minute but was unable to stop him clipping the ball back across goal.

There were white shirts in the box but none reacted as decisively as Calhanoglu, 
who poked home from close range.

Vardy, willing but uncomfortable on the left wing, had the final kick of the half as England broke but his shot was high and wide of the target.

England were handed a glorious chance to retake the lead with 19 minutes left, Vardy bursting forward to take advantage of Mehmet Topal’s error.

The Turkey captain pursued the Leicester man into the box but conceded a spot-kick when Vardy moved across him and tumbled as their bodies clashed.

Kane stepped up to from 12 yards but was left cradling his head in his hands after 
grazing the outside of 
the post.

The winner arrived with seven minutes remaining.

A Kane corner was headed towards the bottom corner by Gary Cahill, where the goalkeeper could only paw it away in front of a defender.

Vardy took aim at the loose ball which nestled in the net via Babacan’s face.
