Trip down the Avenue first before Chorley boss Jamie Vermiglio can concentrate on FA Cup tie at Wigan

The Magpies landed the clash with the 2013 winners when the first-round draw was made on Monday night.

They were very much in the media spotlight, with the BBC presenting their part of the cup draw programme from Victory Park – that attracted viewing figures of 1.2m.

Jamie Vermiglio will take his side to the DW Stadium next weekend, however the focus for now is very much on the league. Chorley head to the Horsfall Stadium having lost their first four National League North games.

The latest was against Kidderminster Harriers last week, Vermiglio’s men going down to a 2-0 defeat.

Despite the poor start in the league, the cup draw has given Chorley a spring in their step which can hopefully serve them well in Yorkshire tomorrow.

Vermiglio said: “The draw against Wigan is as good as we could have wished for in the circumstances. The only better thing would have been to be at home, bring them here and make it more difficult on our pitch.

“There are good connections with Wigan and there is a bit of history.

“Financially I’m not going to be embarrassed to say it, the FA Cup is a massive stream for any club.

“When you get to the first round that is what you think about.

“As players and a manager we will be thinking about if we can get one over on Wigan, can we beat Wigan?

“We will go into the game with some type of belief because you see shock results happen every year in the FA Cup. It’s good that we don’t have to travel far – we won’t need to hire a coach!

“We have got the Bradford game first to think about which is vital to us, we need to get some league points on the board.”

This is the fourth season in a row Chorley have landed league opposition in the cup.

They lost 1-0 at Mansfield last year, took Doncaster to a replay before losing 7-0 in 2018, while in 2017 they were beaten 2-1 by Fleetwood Town.
