The tie was due to be played last weekend but was postponed due to the inclement weather – much to the frustration of Town boss Lee Ashcroft.

The weather looks like it is going to be kinder this week and Ashcroft is confident the game will get the go-ahead.

He believes his team have the ability to beat Vickerstown and progress to the next round of the competition.

“We’ve not had good weather but the forecast is looking better,” he said.

“We’ve already beaten Vickerstown 4-1 this season at our place. We’re not going to underestimate them. Last time out they got a good victory against Hesketh Bank.”

Town have won three of their last four league games, beating Thornton Cleveleys away back in late November, Garstang at home in January and an away win at Euxton Villa two weeks ago.

Their last loss came against league leaders and local rivals Fulwood Amateurs.

Ashcroft has a good record against Vickerstown, winning the last three matches with Town scoring 16 goals and conceding just four.

Last season Lee Ashcroft’s men won 7-2 at Park Vale with captain Jordan Tucker and Ryan McKenna scoring two, each and there were contributions from Jordan Bowen, Jonty McDonald and ex-Town striker Rick Coar.

Due to the recent wet weather, Town have had six league games and a cup match postponed since the end of November.

Despite Town being handicapped by the points deduction imposed for fielding an ineligible player, the manager is hoping to get a string of games together to gather momentum and chase the leading pack in the division.
