Born in Galway, Cunningham has four Republic of Ireland caps having represented his country at under 17, 19 and 21 level. Joining Manchester City’s academy from Mervue United, the 26-year-old made five appearances for the club, two coming in the Premier League as a late substitute.

Had loan spells at Leicester City and Nottingham Forest before joining Bristol City in July 2012.

Arriving at Deepdale from the Robins in the summer of 2015 as both clubs were promoted to the Championship, the popular left back quickly became PNE’s Mr Reliable, ending his first season at Deepdale as the club’s player of the year.

Has continued his form into this season, making 33 appearances and scoring in the 1-1 draw with Sheffield Wednesday.
