The 19-year-old forward has been a valuable member of Brig’s first team squad for the past few years since progressing from the club’s academy set-up.

Skilful and fast with an eye for the spectacular, Linney has scored some hugely important goals over the past few years – none more so than in the final of the NPL League Cup last month.

Leading 1-0 at half-time against Grantham Town, Brig doubled their advantage shortly after the interval when Linney produced a moment of sublime skill.

His volley into the top corner proved to be pivotal as Brig held off a late onslaught by the Gingerbreads to memorably win 2-1.

Reynolds believes Linney – who turns 20 later this week – can be as good as anything in the First Division North and has the ability to play higher up the football pyramid.

“I will let you into a little secret,” Reynolds said. “Regan’s goal against Grantham was of the highest quality, but it came after I had had a little go at him at half-time.

“I just felt in the first half against, his recovery runs weren’t what they should be.

“I singled him out in the dressing room, but then I pulled him outside and told him how much I thought of him as a player and how good he can be.

“The way he came out for the second half, to take those words on board, and to show the work rate and endeavour that he did was fantastic.

“He was absolutely shattered when I brought him off, but he turned out to be our match winner in one of the club’s biggest games in a long time. To take the goal the way he did; he is a very special talent.

“When he gets that belief into his mindset, he is as good anything.”

Meanwhile, Reynolds has yet to make his first signing of the summer, but intimated that something may happen this week. “I am hoping by Friday to have a bit more to report,” he said.
