Renno urges men to aim high this season

The Brig boss kicks-off his first full season in charge of the club with a tricky away trip to Radcliffe Borough tomorrow.

Only in the hotseat for less than nine months, it has not stopped Reynolds from aiming high.

He led the club to its first piece of silverware in more than a decade when they won the League Cup at the end of the previous campaign and now he is eager to secure promotion for the team that he served for several years as a player and coach.

“The only pressure I feel is the pressure I put on myself,” said Reynolds. “Some managers may come out and say that they will be happy with a top-10 finish.

“I’ve said all along that I want to win the league and win promotion. I just think that there are so many people at the club who work so hard behind the scenes.

“It’s a great club, the facilities areNational League North standard and I want to take the club back there.

“If it doesn’t happen and we don’t win promotion this season, then it doesn’t happen.

“It won’t be a disaster, but that’s my ambition.

“After winning the cup last season, that winning feeling is around the club.

“It’s going to be really difficult, there’s some really good teams in the division, but why can’t it be be us? Why can’t Bamber Bridge win the league?

“I don’t want to be a manager of a team which happy to be a top-10 team.

“I want the lads in the dressing room to want to win something. I want my side to be one that people want to come and watch.”

Radcliffe had a poor season last year, finishing third from bottom, but eight of their 12 league wins came at Stainton Park.

They have strengthened their squad over the summer, including the acquisition of former Brig forward Ryan Salmon.

But Reynolds’ men head into the first game of the season with confidence sky high – especially after beating last season’s First Division North champions Lancaster City 2-0 in their final pre-season game on Saturday.

Reynolds – who missed the game at the weekend as he was on holiday – said: “I have had reports from people in our camp and a few independent people who were at the game and by all accounts, it was a fully deserved win.

“Our first three pre-season games against Preston, Morecambe and Chorley, we wereexpected to get beaten.

“But we have then beaten Squires Gate, Longridge, Barnoldswick Town in games we were expected to win.

“I said to the lads that the Lancaster games was a good one to show where we are at.

“It was a great way to finish pre-season”
