Adam Reach has extended his loan at Preston North End until the end of the season.
The winger joined PNE from Middlesbrough on a 93-day emergency loan in September and a deal has been struck with the Teessiders for him to stay until May.
North End boss Simon Grayson said: “It is a big boost for us and a big coup because the lad has done really well for us.
“He is versatile and is a really good kid who wants to learn, he was desperate to stay here and play football.
“Some other players might have been tempted to go back and be part of a potential title-winning team without playing too much football.
“So I’m delighted to have him here.
“What Adam will want is for Middlesbrough to get promoted and for us to have a successful season too.
“I’ve been in dialogue with Middlesbrough over the last few weeks and there have been encouraging signs.
“They are happy with his development and progress, hence they were happy to let him stay here.”
Reach has been an ever present since signing for Preston, making 17 starts.
