It's a much later start to the campaign due to last season over-running due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The fixture list will see a much tighter schedule, with the regular season needing to finish on May 8/9 before the play-offs later that month.

Preston North End and their fellow Championship clubs will play 13 midweek games in order to fit all the matches in.

The draw for the Carabao Cup first round will take place next Tuesday (August 18) with games scheduled to take place on September 5.

However, that falls during an international break and the EFL say 'alternative' dates are available.

An alternative could well be Saturday, August 29, that previously suggested as a date for ties involving Championship clubs.

The first round draw will be regionalised but not seeded.

Rounds two, three and four of the Carabao Cup will be played in successive midweeks starting on September 15/16.

This season's semi-finals will be one leg instead of the usual two-legged affairs.
