The German manager has already employed 12 different central defensive partnerships this term as he looks to combat the absences of key talents such as Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, and Joel Matip.

But after a month of uncertainty in the transfer market, the champions made in-roads on deadline day by agreeing deals for Davies and Schalke youngster Ozan Kabak.
