When will the transfer window open and close?

The Premier League and EFL summer transfer window will open from July 27, and will close on October 5.

That gives top-tier clubs 10 weeks to sign players.

Has there been talk of a ‘domestic window?’

In addition to the 10-week window, the Premier League and EFL have stated that there will be an additional ‘domestic-only’ window between October 5 and 16.

During the domestic window, Premier League clubs will only be able to trade with EFL teams.

This means that no transfers will be allowed between top-flight outfits during the additional domestic window.

How will that work for clubs involved in the Championship play-offs?

The EFL have stated that new signings will not be allowed to play until the beginning of the 2020-21 season.

Meaning any players clubs acquire would not be involved in the Championship play-offs.

All plans are still subject to FIFA approval.

When is next season likely to start?

There has not yet been any firm date announced for the beginning of the 2020-21 season – meaning Preston and other English clubs are in limbo.

However, launching the new season on September 12 looks like the most likely option, after that month’s round of international fixtures.
