The Manchester City loan man started Tuesday’s 1-1 draw with Middlesbrough in place of the stricken Callum Robinson.

And with Robinson facing a long absence, a run of games should be coming the way of 22-year-old Barker.

When he came on a sub for Robinson against Blackburn last Saturday, it was his first slice of action since the Hull game on October 20.

Barker said: “I’ve had to bide my time a little bit, until the weekend I hadn’t played in the last month.

“It was nice to be out there and get 90 minutes.

“The fact I wasn’t in the team was that Callum has been magnificent in my position.

“I’m gutted I’ve not had the chance to play in the team more with Callum.

“I’ve had the same type of injury that he’s got and know what he has to go through.

“Callum will get on with his rehab work and will come back stronger for this.”

The draw with Boro saw North End stretch their unbeaten run to nine games.

Barker felt it should have been three points in the bag with some good chances missed.

One of those fell his way in the first 90 seconds when he broke clear on goal.

Said Barker: “I should have done much better, I should have buried it

“A chance like that I should be scoring 100 times out of 100 times.

“I’ll take it on the chin and work on improving.

“Maybe it was two points dropped but we’re nine games unbeaten now.

“Middlesbrough came here second in the table and we more than held our own.

“We’ve got a lot of games coming up and at the moment we’ve got players missing.

“I hope the rest of us can stay fit because December is really busy and we want to put more points on the board.”
