For completeness, the joint top tacklers in the Championship are Reading pair Andy Rinomhota and Omar Richards, and Paddy McNair of Middlesbrough with 29 successful tackles.

Ledson shares fifth place with Barnsley pair Alex Mowatt and Callum Styles, and Coventry’s Ben Sheaf.

Mowatt is a former team-mate of Ledson from Oxford United.

The North End midfield pair have spent plenty of time on the pitch this season, Browne the only ever-present in league action in the squad.

Ledson has started 10 of the Championship games and came on after an hour of the one match he started on the bench.

Between them, the duo have in the main covered the absence of Ben Pearson who for the last few seasons has been the deep-sitting midfield player.

Pearson has been missing since damaging his groin in the latter stages of the Deepdale defeat to Cardiff on October 18.

Browne dropped back to take the ‘six’ role for the 2-0 win at Queens Park Rangers. In the next game against Huddersfield, Browne was needed to play right wing-back, so Ledson patrolled the midfield.
