Liam Lindsay and Anthony Gordon came straight in for their debuts after signings on loan on deadline day from Stoke City and Everton respectively.

There was a first start for Ched Evans, North End having made the striker's move from Fleetwood Town permanent ahead of kick-off - as they did with Greg Cunningham's loan from Cardiff City.

Joe Rafferty came into the side in place of the injured Alan Browne, with Tom Barkhuizen restored to the starting XI after a few games on the bench.

Sepp van den Berg, who was signed on loan from Liverpool as part of the deal which took Ben Davies to Anfield, was named on the bench.

Sean Maguire returned to the squad after injury, the striker getting a place on the bench.
